Ok I want to do a burst finsh but I dont want the snakewood bindings stained. What the trick? masking I dont think is the best option. I am scared that I wil get bleed under the masking tape. I would like to airbrush the burst on with stained finish but cant get past how to keep it off the bindings and purfling.MichaelP38706.6741782407

Michael,
I recently bursted a mando and had to be very cautious with the binding since I "antiqued" it. I sprayed several clear coates over the instrument after sealing. Then taped off the binding, colored my laquers, sprayed all the burst colors and then followed up with more clear coates. Sylvan Wells is a master at spraying Bursts perhaps he will chime in.

p.s. I used the automotive tape around the binding as you can "stretch" and pull it into clean lines. Spray very light coates to prevent anything from running under.

Sometimes it is best to plan the guitar around a burst and put on a dark purfling line that you can mask to or scrape to. That is what I usually do. You might try masking with some automotive thin line tape for the edge and then use masking tape outside that.
